Delhi Police on Wednesday, September 1, busted a fake call centre which was scamming people under the pretext of providing them with jobs. Officials arrested 10 telemarketers, including the mastermind who was an international mountaineer and had conquered Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro.

Officials discovered that the mastermind, Anil Kumar, was operating an illegal call centre for the past 45 days with 10 female telemarketers. He used to lure gullible and unemployed young people by promising them jobs at “Tata Air India” and also sent them forged appointment letters on WhatsApp.

In order to prevent physical contact, the accused gathered information about people primarily from Orissa, MP and Maharashtra from the ‘Work India portal’.

He admitted that he had defrauded more than 50 people and had employed women to make calls, conduct telephone interviews and demand payments from unemployed, innocent people as part of registration fees, uniform charges, etc.

The accused charged each victim anywhere between Rs 1,500 to Rs 8,000 for registration fees, uniform costs, etc. During the bust, 18 mobile phones, 1 dongle, 2 debit cards from Fino Payment Bank, and other forged documents were found.

The accused, Anil Kumar, was a mountaineer. He used to operate under the name and brand ‘ITS Tour & Travels’ in the travel sector. However, after suffering a significant loss, he began defrauding helpless people who were out of work.
