October 22, 2026: His Holiness the Je Khenpo presided over the Salhang Tendrel, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Dewachen Spiritual Centre, today. The centre is located at Kencholing in Dekiling Gewog, Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC).
For generations, Bhutanese have prayed for rebirth in Dewachen, the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha. The centre gives that aspiration a place on earth. It will be a sacred landscape for prayer, spiritual practice, Dharma learning, retreat, blessing and contemplative renewal.
It is not planned as a conventional monastery compound or a tourist attraction. The centre is conceived as a complete sacred campus. At its heart will be a Three-Kaya Main Temple and four major side temples. Around them will be Lotus Lake, sacred water systems, jewel-inspired pathways, groves of wish-fulfilling trees, Dharma learning precincts and retreat zones.
The centre is initiative of the Tsugla Lopen Karma Rangdol of the Zhung Dratshang. It will serve devotees from across Bhutan and welcome people from around the world who come seeking reflection and spiritual growth.
In GMC, spiritual life is part of the foundation from the very first day.
Dewachen is one of eight spiritual projects granted Royal Kashos by His Majesty The King in May 2026, totalling to 22 spiritual projects in GMC.
