26 October 2026: The Honโ€™ble Lyonpo Sonam Tashi, Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, is attending the 19th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026 from 26-27 October 2026, upon the invitation of Singaporeโ€™s Minister for Energy, Trade, and Industry (Energy and Industry), H.E. Dr. Tan See Leng.
During the Ministerial Dialogue, Lyonpo highlighted Bhutanโ€™s longstanding hydropower cooperation with India and emphasised that successful regional energy partnerships must be built on mutual trust, transparent commercial arrangements and shared benefits. Lyonpo also highlighted Bhutanโ€™s ambition to achieve 25,000 MW of clean energy generation capacity by 2040, comprising 20,000 MW of hydropower and 5,000 MW of solar. He called for greater private-sector investment, affordable financing, technology transfer and stronger regional electricity connectivity to realise this ambition while ensuring that energy development generates lasting benefits for Bhutanese people.
SIEW is an annual international energy platform organised by Singaporeโ€™s Energy Market Authority, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and experts to discuss global energy challenges and opportunities. For Bhutan, participation provides an important opportunity to showcase its renewable energy potential, strengthen partnerships with Singapore and other international investors, and exchange knowledge on energy security, green financing, technology and cross-border electricity trade.
Bhutanโ€™s participation reaffirms its commitment to developing its renewable energy resources responsibly, strengthening domestic energy security and contributing to a sustainable and reliable regional energy future.
